Jasper National Park on Fire - Part 2. After 25,000 people have been evacuated, they are still rounding up back country hikers. 15,000 people were tourists staying at hotels and campgrounds. From the look of the NASA Fire Map, the Wabasso Campground on 93A looks to be a write off. The center of the larger fire is in the 93A/93 zone near Horseshoe Lake and the Athabasca Falls. Although there 100's of wonderful spots in the park, I've marked the location of a few that are at risk. In particular, Becker's Bungalows is the first hotel at risk the Becker's Rapids (Class 3). Hopefully, we won't lose this wonderful facility and the nearly 90 years of memories. Check out the spots that were highlighted on Google Photos and it will give you a good idea what could be lost.

Jasper National Park on Fire. Today, we are at risk of damaging not just a national treasure, but one that belongs to all living things on earth. Yes, in the old days, First Nations lived in the valleys and selectively burned areas to improve hunting over thousands of years. In those days, they were small groups that sustained themselves by working with nature, not against. Today, we have created an environment that is shifting the local climates and raising the sea levels. The Eastern Slope of the Rockies has gotten increasingly warmer and dryer every year I have been alive. Every glacier in Jasper has been at risk, dwindling the largest sub-arctic region south of Latitude 60. The Columbia Icefield is a giant climate simulation run on an analog basis. It has moved in the wrong direction for my entire lifetime. We need to act sensibly and stop chasing ridiculous shining objects like direct air capture, hair brained fusion schemes, electrification of airplanes and thinking AI and Bitcoin are energy virtuous. For example, we need to build PWR fission units, increase rail transportation, replace oil & coal based chemicals with plant based ones, reduce single use anything, expand solar and storage technology (not just panels and LiON batteries). We need to expand our clean industrial capabilities, not write more useless software for social media when the enterprise and desktop stuff we had 25 years ago works perfectly good. My dog loves Jasper, but AI and wacky fusion schemes won't save it for her.

File this one under "They'll Say It's Different This Time". Shiller's Adjusted PE Ratio for the S&P 500. At a 36.32 ratio now with a historical median of 14.99. At 36.32, this market is walking the "Green Mile". In simpler terms, stock prices would need to stay static while earnings will need to double over about a 10 year period, indicating a CAGR of over 7.2% for earnings alone.

A really good article. Bill correctly notes we knew about climate change at Cornell back in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

This is critical for every Albertan. We need to build this a quickly as possible in order to grow the economy and reduce energy devoted to transportation.

We are more likely to see things like the Enterprise's ship computer and tricorders rather than robots like Ruk or computers like M5.
